This is an excellent gyro recipe. I put it in the cuisinart to mix it all up, pressed it in a loaf pan and when it was done baking I drained it and put a brick wrapped in foil on top of it while it cooled (idea from Alton Brown). Sliced it and fried it up. They were delicious.

This was excellent. I made it pretty much as stated and served it with a greek salad (Kittencal's Famous Greek Salad). We only ate half of the meatloaf, I froze the other half. We'll see how it is after the freezer! Thanks

I usually make a chicken gyro recipe that i found here but also love the traditional lamb meat, i stumbled across this recipe when i was searching for a friend and holy cow, this was great! Very quick and easy to put together, thanks for a keeper in this household.

I was also surprised that the meat loaf needed no filler. I was also a little bit anxious about the amount of oregano. But everything was perfection. We love tsztziki sauce and I always have to make more than called for. This was so, so good. Thnx for posting, Sassy, will definitely have this again. Made for My-3-Chefs 2008.

LOVED IT! We had a pita buffet tonight with two different pita recipes. Both were absolutely delicious. I was surprised that there are no bread crumbs in the meatloaf, but it came out just right. The seasonings are perfect and the sauce is delicious. In fact, I ended up making more of the sauce to use for dipping pita chips. I had to use roasted bell peppers rather than tomatoes because of the recall, I think they were the perfect accompaniment! Thank you for posting a keeper Sassy! Made for ZWT, please see my rating system as I rate tougher than most.

Delicious! As my husband said, it tasted like a perfect gyro. The meat loaf slices tastes just like the mystery meat loaf slices you get at a Greek restaurant, perfect seasoning. These are not highly addictive in my roommate's point of view, but very yummy. :) I must have sliced VERY thin, because there was enough meat for the 4 adults to each get 2 gyros, and the 2 kids got either 1 gyro or the equivalent of 2, plus some leftover for lunches! :) This was also EASY! Which I loved. And my husband came home just as I was grilling the pitas, and so he thought I had made them myself! :)
