Greek Hamburgers

"This recipe is one that I have adopted. The review from SusieD stated the wine was a bit over powering so I substituted beef broth. This worked out nicely also."

  1. Delicious! The cumin and oregano gave the burgers a wonderful flavor that was a nice change from a regular burger. I used the beef broth option and grilled them on the barbecue. Next time, I think I might add some dry bread crumbs to stiffen up the meat mixture. The burgers were very soft and I had a hard time keeping them together. The leftover burgers were even better the next day. **Made for 2016 Culinary Quest - Greece for the Pi Rho Maniacs**

  2. Easy recipe and served with creamy cucumber salad and an orzo salad.

  3. When making this recipe, I halved it for just the 2 of us, used 2 tablespoons of the wine, pressed the tomatoes to get rid of some of the moisture there, & used whole grain bread! Ended up with some great tasting hamburgers & a new recipe that I plan to keep onhand! Thanks for sharing it! [Made & reviewed in Went to the Market tag]

  4. These burgers are great! I used my George Foreman grill, but look forward to them on my grill outside very soon!

  5. I didn't have any of these but DH rated them a 3. My only complaint is that they take a little finese cooking, they fall apart easily

Tweaks

  1. Wowie! I made this with the broth instead of wine and these were moist and flavourful. I like to only use lean or extra lean ground beef, but I hate dry burgers. These ones stayed juicy and my hubby can't wait for the next ones! Thank you for such a great recipe!!

  2. A good tasting burger! Used breadcrumbs instead of sliced bread and beef broth instead of the wine. Served in pita like shown in picture with a cucumber sour cream sauce.

  3. Quick & easy weeknight dinner. I added 1t of garlic powder, subbed bread crumbs for the sliced bread, & only used 1 1/2 pounds of ground meat. I shaped the patties into 6 ovals as I was planning to serve them in pita pockets. I also added a tiny amount of oil to the skillet to fry them. The wine flavor was a tad predominant, but I had used a full bodied red wine. I found that flavor had mellowed considerably in the leftover patties used for the next days lunch. I will use this recipe again. Thanks Lori!!
